velcro诞生于瑞士20世纪中期，40 年代初的一天，瑞士发明家George de Mestral 先生带 着他的爱犬到森林中漫步，返回时发现裤子和狗身上粘满了带刺的苍耳。这一现象引发了 De Mestral 先生的好奇心。 在显微镜下进一步观察后，他发现了其中的奥秘：原来苍耳 每个刺的顶端结构都是一个小钩子，就是这种结构使它可以轻易的钩在有毛圈结构的裤料上。

这一发现促成 De Mestral先生发明了由钩和毛两种结构组成的搭扣带。其中的钩就像苍耳上 的小钩子，而毛就像裤料上的毛圈一样。 George de Mestral 先生为他的发明— 钩毛搭扣带注册了一个商标，即VELCRO® （威扣TM），它源自两个法语单词：“velour” 和“crochet” 即钩和毛圈之意。继承维克罗（粘扣带）集团继承了 De Mestral 先生的发明成为最早的钩毛搭扣带生产商。同时 VELCRO® （威扣TM）也成为维克罗（ VELCRO ）集团生产的 钩毛搭扣带系列产品的专用注册商标。 velcro 在 20世纪80 年代初进入中国市场，初期使用VELCRO 的公司大部份是外资服装厂。
